Source of the Rain
In the distance, the downpour of rain portrays a still life of things to come.
The wind gives away the future: broad strokes of pastel colors on mountainsides where shadows form in ways that don’t make sense to we who spent our lives in the relative safety of captive office life.
Ambitions and vague dreams of custard pie are lost to the sounds of engine-braking 18-wheeled trucks imitating aircraft guns on their race to the distant and permanent Tsunami of mountains.
Nature works differently than the weather channel lets on when you sleep at the source of the rain. Only 8 inches will find its way to the soil this year.
The rain will rinse the runabout and wet the same rocky trails that we were too unsteady to try. And hopefully cleanse our roof and panels and windshield one last time as we call the desert our home for the winter.
And we were here for it.
